Julie began working in the oncology setting as a nurse assistant and nurse extern in the oncology/hospice unit at St. John Medical Center in 2000. She later received her bachelor’s degree from Langston University in 2002 and continued to work as a registered nurse in the same unit. Julie worked in various leadership roles while at St. John, including serving as co-chair on the Pain Committee and as chairperson for the Quality Improvement Council. Julie co-authored the document that led to the eventual Magnet recognition at St. John.
After graduating with a Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, she began to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute. In 2016, Julie earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Oklahoma University with a focused study in survivorship care for cancer patients. Julie has published her work on survivorship care in the Oncology Nursing Forum.
