The 29th annual Tin Cup Golf Classic brought together community leaders, generous supporters and golf enthusiasts for a day of fellowship, friendly competition and a shared commitment to local healthcare. Now in its 29th year, the tournament has become a signature tradition, offering a one-of-a-kind day on the course while raising over $155,000 to support Stillwater Medical’s Emergency Department Expansion Project.
For the fourth consecutive year, BancFirst served as the tournament’s Title Sponsor, helping lead a group of sponsors, players and volunteers whose support made the event possible.
“What makes the Tin Cup so special is the people,” said Joe Akin, Senior Director of Development and Community Outreach for the Stillwater Medical Foundation. “Our sponsors, players and volunteers show up ready to have a great time, but they also understand why they’re here. They care about Stillwater Medical and they care about this community.”
Akin said the success of the tournament is rooted in the people who make it possible, from those who support the event financially to those who volunteer their time.
“We can put together all the details, but at the end of the day, people are what make an event like this successful,” Akin said. “And our people were absolutely amazing.”
Proceeds from the Tin Cup Golf Classic benefit the Emergency Department Expansion Project, which aims to address the growing needs of the community’s emergency care services.
Stillwater Medical’s Emergency Department was designed to accommodate approximately 25,000 visits annually. Today, the department sees around 35,000 visits each year, underscoring the need for additional space and resources.
“That tells you pretty quickly why this project matters,” Akin said.
The expansion is intended to help Stillwater Medical better meet the needs of patients and families who rely on emergency care.
“When someone walks through those doors, it may be one of the worst days of their life,” Akin said. “We want to make sure our physicians and staff have the space and resources they need to provide the level of care our community deserves.”
This year’s sponsors helped support the tournament through a variety of contributions. InterWorks served as Course Sponsor, while Nabholz sponsored Awards and Prizes. Forefront provided support as the Food and Snack Sponsor, and Simmons Bank served as the Refreshments Sponsor. Flintco returned as Tee Gift Sponsor, with OnCue supporting the Skills Challenge.
Additional sponsors included Dearingers, supporting Traditions; Lucas Grounds State Farm Insurance, serving as Golf Cart Sponsor; Lambert Construction, sponsoring Happy Gilmore 2; and an anonymous sponsorship for the Early Birdie. Aggregate Mechanical and MWConstruction supported Bag Drop, while Wilson Auto Family and Janzen Toyota served as Hole-in-One Sponsors. Fisher Provence Realtors supported the tournament as Championship Dreams.
The money raised through this year’s event represents the generosity of a community that continues to invest in the future of local healthcare. Every sponsorship, team registration and volunteer effort contributed to a shared goal: helping Stillwater Medical provide the space and resources needed to care for patients and families.
“That’s what we were raising money for, and that’s what made this day about so much more than golf,” Akin said.
As Stillwater Medical continues planning for the Emergency Department expansion, the Tin Cup Golf Classic remains a meaningful example of what can happen when a community comes together to support the future of local healthcare.
