Karman Legacy Hospice

Karman Legacy Hospice is rooted in the healthcare history of Oklahoma. Karman Legacy Hospice is one of Oklahoma’s oldest hospice service and has offered Hospice services prior to there being a formal hospice program.

Those providing the service are often reminded of why we are here; we are here to offer a service that is not like any other healthcare service offered. We provide a service that has the distinct honor of being provided to those who are at the end-of-life. We treat each and every life with the same wonder and splendor that is due the individual. We also offer a number of services that are family/caregiver oriented as there are special needs for those who will be left to remember the life that has passed on

Our staff of nurses work with a team of physicians, chaplains, social workers and Certified Home Health Aides that offer a coordinated and patient specific plan of care. Hospice services are provided where ever the patient calls home and are available 24 hrs per day.

In order to qualify for Karman Legacy Hospice services, an individual must meet qualifying criteria. Karman Legacy Hospice offers same-day admit to service with a no charge assessment for services.

Karman Legacy Hospice, located at 1311 South Western in Stillwater, OK services a 50 mile service radius. This includes the following counties: Payne, Creek, Noble, Kay, Logan, Pawnee, Osage and Lincoln.

At Karman Legacy Hospice we offer volunteer services to enhance the lives of our patients and family members.

We offer services by trained volunteers that include patient care services; reading to a patient, playing cards, playing checkers, socialization in general. Quilting for a patient, baking cookies, Pet Therapy, or Life Review.

We also offer office centered volunteer opportunities such as filing, answering the phone, preparing reports or other meaningful ways to help the staff be able to spend more time focusing on the patient care areas.

If you have a talent and would like to give a little bit of your time to a very worthy cause, call our Volunteer Coordinator and we will find the position that is right for you.

Hospices depend on their volunteers. Without the efforts of volunteers, hospices could not continue their important work. Patients and families depend on hospice care. No one else provides the kind of services that hospice does. By attending to the needs of both the patients and their loved ones, hospice care can be a huge comfort for the entire family.

Hospice Volunteers serve in many ways.

• Keep the patient company
• Listen to concerns
• Be a support person
• Read aloud
• Help staff with office work and other behind-the-scenes tasks

Duties will vary depending on the patient’s and family’s needs as well as what the volunteer is able and comfortable doing.

The Annual Tree of Life lighting ceremony remembers, honors, and celebrates those we have lost in a special gathering of friends and family members. We invite you to be a part of this year’s Tree of Life. Your donation ensures hospice care and bereavement services can continue for the patients and families in need in north-central Oklahoma.

In addition to placing your loved one’s name on the Tree of Life, we will provide you with an ornament for your own tree.

The requirements for hospice volunteers have been put together by combining state regulations with those of Stillwater Medical’s Karman Legacy Hospice.

Volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of well-rounded self-directed core training and to attend at least three in-services a year. In-services are similar to most organization meetings: a discussion topic and/or speaker, announcements, and food. Additional training is required for volunteers who wish to learn more about bereavement and how to help families with the grief they experience after losing a loved one. Confidentiality forms, background checks, fingerprinting, and inoculations are also required for those who wish to volunteer. All volunteers are invited to participate in special events and parties. We ask our volunteers to do as much—or as little—as they can.
