Combined internal medicine and pediatric doctors must complete four years of medical school, and then complete further years of training and residency to be fully licensed in most U.S. states. Internal medicine is a three-year residency program leading to a board certification in internal medicine. Pediatrics is also a three-year residency program leading to, yet again, another board certification in pediatrics. Med-Peds programs are accredited by the ACGME and AOA as a combined program instead of a separate accreditation in internal medicine and pediatrics.
