Dr. Fernando empowers patients with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and surgical treatments. He believes in staying current with the latest medical literature and is a strong proponent of evidence-based medicine in guiding best clinical practices.  

He gained his inspiration to pursue a career in women’s health from Drs. James Smeltzer and Kevin Windom at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He then completed his clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology in New York City under the guidance of Drs. Angela D. Kerr and Michael F. Cabbad at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, an academic and clinical affiliate of the Mount Sinai System/Icahn School of Medicine. He then completed his Master in Health Administration at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City prior to starting at Stillwater Medical Center.

Dr. Fernando is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He holds professional memberships with the American College of Obstetrician Gynecologists (ACOG), the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).  

Dr. Fernando’s clinical experience is in surgical gynecology. His primary specialty focus is minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery for fibroids, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis. Dr. Fernando has helped to develop the robotic gynecology surgery program at Stillwater Medical and is a strong advocate of superior surgical outcomes delivered by the DaVinci surgical robotic system. His administrative interests are in machine learning, risk management, technical operations, and process management. He has served on the performance improvement and resource management committees, and he currently serves on the ethics, electronic medical record, and facilities management committees at Stillwater Medical.  

In his spare time, Dr. Fernando enjoys working as a mechanic on older generation Mercedes Benz diesel cars. He also volunteers his time to work at the Stillwater Community Health Center and is actively working to launch a community women’s clinic. Dr. Fernando and his wife Sharon live in Stillwater and enjoy being a part of the Stillwater community.
