Stillwater Medical Center is pleased to announce Debbie Shelley, LPN as the June Employee of the Month. Debbie works in the Maternal Child Health Unit and has been at SMC since 1986.
“I started my nursing experience at the old Stillwater Hospital in 1973 and worked in every area of nursing there for 4 years,” she said. “I moved away and returned to SMC in 1986 after being married and having 4 children. I had another child shortly after returning. SMC is home to me!”
Debbie has been married to her husband, Bill, almost 30 years and they have 5 children and 3 grandchildren, with another one the way.
In her spare time, Debbie is active in her church and enjoys spending time in her flower garden.
Debbie said the greatest day of her life was the day she became a Christian. When asked what special talents she would like to pass along to her family and friends, she said, “My daughters said they would like to receive my patience and also my cooking and baking ability, but most of all, I want them to love unconditionally.”
Her favorite place to visit is Arkansas. She said, “We have had most of our family vacations with the kids there as they were growing up.”
Debbie greatly admires the Special Olympics program. She said she has close friends with children who have special needs and they enjoy participating so much.
When asked how she felt about receiving this awards, she said, “It’s a great honor and surprise as I have received this honor before.”
Way to go, Debbie! We are proud to have you at SMC.
